For this project my class and I have study different philosophers along with different political issue. We learned about a man named Henry David Thoreau and what his life was like in the book “The night Thoreau Spent in Jail.” This was a play that talked about how Henry had been arrested for not paying his taxes and was talking to a boy named Bailey. The next thing we did was read a book called Justice. In Justice we learned about different situation that could have been either prevented or involved a lot of thinking. For example after a hurricane hit Florida sells men raised their prices because they knew people need simple things to live. A hotel that was originally $68 a night was then $150 a night. This is now against the law in Florida. The next thing we learned where the different Philosophers such as Henry David Thoreau, Immanuel Kant and John Rawls. With these different Philosophers we were able to use what they have taught us to our own political issue. For mine I used John Rawls because he came up with something called “The Veil of Ignorance. “ The way the Veil of Ignorance works is that you don’t know who you are going to be until you are born. People don’t know whether or not they will be in Debt or Live in lower class until they are born. Such as people don’t know that they are going to love a specific gender until they are old enough for their brain to register. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At first when I made my draft I didn’t even use my own Political issue. I went off topic completely talking about a different issue. I had a lot of spelling errors and didn’t write an outline so I was all over the place. I added a lot more evidence to my Op-Ed but I tried to keep it balanced. I added a couple of verses from the bible to use as evidence saying how you can’t say you accept everyone but these specific people. I also used a man called John Oliver and I found him on YouTube. A lot of my own work before wasn’t even remotely close to what I actually needed to do. So a lot my content needed to be erased and redone. With the help of my teachers though I think I did fine. I wasn’t very organized with my paper at first I was all over the place and couldn’t keep the subject on track. I wrote randomly and though that I could fix it later. I also didn’t even have my thesis it was just a mess. It wasn’t at all what wanted it to be at first but when I got help I then was able to make the paper I really wanted.
Think of this as a mini-artist statement to help me and the outside world understand your project piece more clearly! For my project I was talking about Texas anti- discrimination law not passing with voters. I was using different LGBT flags such as The Transgender flag (White, Blue, and Pink) The Pansexual flag (Blue, Yellow and Pink) and finally one that is the most recognizable the Gay/Lesbian flag (Rainbow). I made it so the black silhouettes people were protesting supporting there different flags. Then I had Texas spilling the LGBT flag with the words Anti- discrimination melting in the middle. This represents the anti- discrimination law not passing and these people equality not passing.
